A pump losing prime may not have a pump problem at all. Air leaks, low water level and suction-side restrictions are common places to investigate first.
Centrifugal pump suction problems can make a healthy pump look like it is failing. Before replacing equipment, check whether the pump is actually receiving the liquid it needs.
